Types of HD Video Surveillance with Night Vision Security Camera Systems

Posted by Amy Hite on Aug 6, 2018

Every effective security system needs reliable cameras. A lower resolution camera may be fine for daytime surveillance but may not be able to adequately protect areas from crime at night. There are a variety of night vision security camera systems on the market. They come in different shapes and sizes and are built with varying capabilities. How do you know what are the best ones for your property?

Although there are some analog security cameras with night vision capabilities, IP surveillance cameras are by far the superior alternative. As stated in a previous blog, IP cameras have better viewing angles and can record and stream higher quality video. This makes it easier to see suspicious activity and find identifying features, especially in low light. Many cameras come with built-in infrared LEDs that allow them to provide clear video in areas with low light.

There are several types of IP surveillance cameras that have low-light capabilities, including vandal-dome and PTZ security cameras. Dome security cameras, or vandal-resistant cameras, are typically placed on the ceiling of parking garages and under eaves. Many dome cameras can withstand blunt force and are resistant to spray paint. PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras can be remotely controlled in real time to move up, down, left, right and zoom in and out to easily follow suspects’ movements. Outdoor PTZ cameras can see long distances so they are ideal for watching perimeters, fields and parking lots.
