ATM Heist Foiled by Live Video Monitoring

Posted by Blake Mitchell on Jul 10, 2015

A wave of criminal activity has spread across the US as thieves have perfected the Smash and Grab approach to ATM theft. They use trucks to literally rip the machines out of building walls and tow them away in mere minutes.

Halfway through the year the Dallas Police Department has already reported 48 local attempted ATM thefts. This video and Stealth CEO Norm Charney were featured in an NBC Channel 5 news story on the ATM attack

At 4:10 AM Stealth operators observe a pickup truck driving around a shopping center. The vehicle stops in front of a grocery store. A sign says Video Recording in Progress. These thieves didn’t take it seriously.

The truck backs up to an ATM. Three individuals wearing masks, gloves and hoods exit the vehicle and clear a path to the ATM. The truck reverses at full speed twice to ram the ATM to dislodge the machine.

Stealth trained monitors activate a speaker warning. Audio alerts are a proven crime deterrent. The thieves hear the warning and abandon their effort to free the ATM. They immediately flee both on foot and in the truck.

The police quickly arrive 5 minutes later. They typically respond quicker when they know a live crime is in progress.
