California Apartment Community Cameras Catch Car-Skimming Crook

Posted by Brandon Koepnick on Mar 2, 2023

Residents expect their vehicles to be safe from theft and break-ins when they’re parked at home. Unfortunately, vehicle theft statistics show otherwise – according to the National Crime Information Center, over 745,000 vehicles were stolen in the first three quarters of 2022 alone, and according to the FBI 41% of all stolen vehicles are taken from the home.

Clearly, security solutions are needed. Watch what happens when an unwitting would-be car thief targets a multifamily residential community where Stealth was watching.

At 2:17 a.m., an alert Stealth security professional observed a suspicious individual weaving in and out between vehicles in the parking facilities of a California apartment community. The operator sounded the audible alarms and contacted the on-site security officer, as well as contacting local police dispatch due to the nature of the activity being observed.

Officers responded to the scene quickly and were able to locate the suspect while still on site in the parking facilities. The individual was taken into custody, and dispatch requested that Stealth provide the footage for inclusion in their report.

Help Maintain a Safe and Secure Environment for Your Residents and Their Property

With vehicle theft, parts-theft, and break-ins surging over the past few years, it’s more important than ever to have security solutions that can help deter and disperse criminal activity and reduce the chances of your property becoming an enticing target.

Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive security solution. Using a combination of highly trained security professionals and analytics-based camera technology, our customized video surveillance solution works in real time to catch activity and events as they happen.

When one of our security operators spots anything out of place or unusual on your property, they can take immediate action, sounding on-site audible alarms to disperse would-be criminals. For the more bold and brazen types who remain undeterred even when they are being watched, operators can continue to monitor the situation while contacting local police dispatch, just as you saw in the video above.

Thanks to our ability to provide real-time data and descriptions of both activity and suspects, officers typically prioritize our calls, and often arrive on site while suspects are still in the area.

Best of all, Stealth’s live video monitoring can save you from 25-60% on your security costs when compared to traditional security measures. Ready to learn more? Contact us today to schedule a consultation or get additional information. Texas Private Security License Number: B14187.
