Can Industrial Video Surveillance Systems Prevent Theft?

Posted by Sean Murphy on Feb 12, 2018

Industrial properties are tempting targets for thieves, often because they are dark, isolated and rarely monitored. Surveillance systems can be beneficial in protecting valuable assets, however they can only really deter criminal activity when they are watched in real time. Stealth’s proactive industrial video surveillance systems are monitored by trained operators and can be found at warehouses, logistics hubs, recycling facilities, and other types of commercial properties.

One Florida warehouse could have benefitted from a live video surveillance system.

According to surveillance video, two suspects cut a hole in the ceiling and dropped into the warehouse around midnight. Investigators said they immediately disabled the alarm, opened a bay door, and loaded a box truck with flat screen televisions, navigation systems, and iPads. The total value of the stolen goods was estimated to be around half a million dollars.

Local authorities believe at least five suspects unloaded the stolen goods at an unknown location and returned to the warehouse to steal more merchandise.

The warehouse is not a Stealth Monitoring client and live video monitoring was not reported.

Proactive Video Surveillance Systems

This Florida warehouse utilized a reactive industrial security solution, meaning a sensor must be tripped before the system will activate. Stealth’s customized video surveillance systems are proactive. Trained industrial security operators watch multiple areas of a property live. The cameras are equipped with video analytics software that will notify the operator of any unauthorized movement. If criminal activity is verified, the operator can activate an on-site speaker warning or contact local police. Crimes in progress typically receive a faster police response rate, so there is a greater likelihood the criminals will be caught while still on the property.

Stealth’s customized video surveillance systems are designed for indoor and outdoor industrial security. The cameras are also made to withstand harsh weather conditions like heavy rain, snow, excessive winds, and extreme temperatures.
