Apartment Mail Thief Gets Stamped Out

Posted by Shawna Ivy on Jun 17, 2021

In this month’s video, we caught a thief with his arms full of other people’s mail.

Around 1:30 in the morning, a Stealth Monitoring security operator saw someone pry open a large front panel on a mailbox at a Houston apartment community. The suspect began emptying the contents of the mailbox into a large garbage bag. He abruptly stopped, slammed the panel shut and walked away. The individual returned later to pick up where he had left off, quickly filling his trash bag with other people’s mail.

Satisfied that he had collected all he could from that section, he shut the panel and moved down the line. The suspect pried open another panel and went to work removing the mail.

While all of this was taking place, our operator continued watching and called to dispatch Houston police. Officers arrived while the suspect was holding an armful of parcels. They placed him in handcuffs and escorted him from the property.

Mail Theft is a Federal Offense

In this technologically advanced age we live in, mail theft is a low-tech way to garner other people’s private information. Stealing mail is a federal offense and could result in the thief spending time in federal prison. It could also result in a litany of problems for its victims.
