The residents and staff at your multifamily communities expect there to be a certain level of security and safety. When someone threatens that safety, if can impact your vacancy rates, reputation and ultimately your net operating income.
Around 3:15 one afternoon, a Stealth Monitoring security operator saw a shirtless male holding a machine gun and pacing back and forth on the sidewalk of a Shreveport apartment community. It looked as if the individual was looking or waiting for someone. Our operator acted quickly and called to dispatch police.
Our operator kept an eye on the suspect as he continued to walk around the community. Three officers arrived within minutes and directed the suspect to put the weapon down and raise his arms. One officer handcuffed the individual while another retrieved the weapon from the ground. All three escorted the suspect from the property.
The news is filled with stories of gun violence at multifamily communities across the U.S. An apartment community in Memphis experienced numerous incidents within a week. Gun violence turned deadly at a Northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex. Recent incidents in Seattle, Philadelphia and other major metropolitan areas have also made headlines as of late.
One thing that kept the community in the above video from becoming another news story was live video monitoring. A trained security operator was watching live surveillance cameras and acted immediately, before the situation could escalate, and the suspect could cause harm.
Stealth works directly with local police departments. When we spot suspicious activity and contact local authorities, they know we are watching a crime in progress, so they typically elevate the priority level of the call. This usually results in police arriving while the suspect(s) are still on the property, or at least in the vicinity.
The one place people want to feel safe is where they live. Help give your residents peace of mind with a proactive security solution. For more information about live video monitoring for your multifamily community, contact us.
