Construction Trespasser Arrested at New Housing Development

Posted by Paul Gross on Apr 14, 2022

Trespassers are persistent threats to construction sites. There are various reasons why people are drawn to sites after hours. Some may be searching for materials to steal. Others might be thrill-seekers looking for some fun. There are some who are merely trying to find shelter from inclement weather. No matter the intent, their actions could result in loss and damage.

In this Arrest of the Month video, we caught an intruder who forced his way into a site by cutting the perimeter fence. Thanks to our monitoring operator’s quick action, which was the only damage that occurred.

A Stealth Monitoring security operator spotted an individual at the gate of a construction site one night. The suspect forced his way in through the gate and proceeded towards several unfinished units housing building materials on the site.

Our monitoring operator called to dispatch local police and gave them a description of the suspect’s whereabouts. Within minutes, officers were on the scene and intercepted the trespasser in the middle of the street. He was promptly arrested and escorted from the site.

Mitigate Potential Risks with Remote Video Monitoring

The losses a construction business can incur from theft, damage or fire could be extensive. First, there is the value of any stolen material or equipment. Second, there is the potential downtime while awaiting replacements. Then there could be liability issues if someone is injured on the site. All of this would likely drive-up insurance premiums.

Fortunately, there are preventive strategies that can help reduce loss and risk. Remote video monitoring is a proactive security solution that can not only reduce security costs and crime, but also meet stringent insurance requirements.

Trained security professionals use analytics-based cameras to watch for crimes in progress to help prevent damage and loss. As you saw in the video, our monitoring operator contacted police as soon as the trespasser was spotted on the site. Because we are watching live activity, police typically elevate the priority level of our calls which often results in their arrival while the suspects are still on the scene. These faster response times from security personnel as well as police mean criminals and trespassers can be discovered before they cause damage. Lower risk means less damage and lower insurance rates.
