Construction Trespasser Caught Cruising Site’s Heavy Equipment

Posted by Paul Gross on Dec 14, 2022

Thieves and trespassers alike are criminals that thrive on opportunity. If your construction site, and the expensive materials and equipment that can be found there, appear attainable– you can bet that fences and barriers alone won’t be enough to keep them out.

In the above video, Stealth Monitoring security professionals spotted an individual riding a bike on a construction site at 3:15 in the morning. Hardly the time or place for a casual cruise, the operator kept alert as the person dismounted and opened the door to one of the pieces of heavy machinery onsite. Local law enforcement was then contacted and informed of the trespass and potential theft in progress. Police arrived on scene minutes later and took the individual into custody, along with their bike and bag.

Help Safeguard Your Expensive and Dangerous Heavy Equipment with Proactive Security

Thanks to a massive uptick in construction across North America, the Associated General Contractors of America issued a Construction Inflation Alert for the first time in 13 years in 2021. This was the result of a 12.8% spike in overall input costs – and those numbers have continued to grow.

The sharp increase in construction activity has also seen a burst in demand for, and a rise in prices of, both new and used heavy equipment. So, what does this mean for construction sites, which are already the frequent targets of thieves, trespassers, and vandals?

Proactive security solutions are needed.

Stealth’s remote video monitoring is a proactive security solution that uses a combination of both analytics-based camera technology, and the human intelligence of trained security monitoring operators, to watch for and respond to suspicious activity in real time.

When our trained security professionals spot unwanted or unusual activity, they can quickly follow site protocols to sound audible alarms, contact local law enforcement, and even follow up with site coordinators or owners as needed, assuring that monitoring clients are aware of activity on their sites.

With proactive remote video monitoring, construction businesses can feel more assured that criminal activity will be more effectively deterred and dispersed before major damages, thefts, or liability concerns become an issue.
