Suspect Caught Loitering Behind Shopping Center

Posted by Rick Charney on May 18, 2022

Loitering might seem like an innocuous activity. However, it could potentially lead to more egregious crimes. Not to mention, when people loiter outside your shopping center, they could scare away customers which will ultimately impact your bottom line.

During the night, a Stealth Monitoring security operator spotted someone behind a shopping center. The individual walked around the electrical transformer and removed a postcard, perhaps some type of advertisement, from its top and perused it.

Based on the property’s protocol, our monitoring operator called to dispatch police and provided them with a description and location of the suspect. Officers arrived to find the loiterer still there. After questioning the individual, police handcuffed him and escorted him from the property.

Help Deter Loitering at Your Commercial Property

It’s never good when people loiter on your commercial property. They can damage your building, leave trash in their wake, and send the wrong message to the public.

Many retail centers employ security guards or courtesy patrols to monitor their properties. While human presence is sometimes enough to keep people away, it’s not always the most effective.

A solution that has been very successful at deterring unwanted behavior at commercial properties is live video monitoring. Trained security operators, located safely in a remote monitoring center, watch live security cameras to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. If they see something, they can quickly evaluate the situation and act. This quick action can help diffuse situations to mitigate loss and damage.

Unlike a guard or courtesy patrol who can only be in place at a time, live video monitoring operators can watch multiple areas of a property at once, and often cover places that may not be accessible to the guards. What’s more, our solution is up to 60 percent more cost-effective.
