Parking Garage Perils

Posted by Norm Charney on May 26, 2020

In this month’s video, two people took a stroll through the parking garage looking for treasures. What they found was a trip to jail.

An individual wearing a black hoodie and pulling a tarp-covered wagon walked into a parking garage of a Sacramento apartment building just after midnight. A second person entered right behind him. A Stealth security operator saw them looking into multiple vehicles and trying to gain access.

As you can see, there is a gate at the entrance of the parking garage. However, it’s been left wide open, giving the suspects an opportunity to make their move. Criminals see parking lots and garages as easy targets. After all, they contain a lot of vehicles that provide ample hiding places.

Our monitoring operator contacted police, as well as the security guard that was listed as the contact. However, the guard service informed the operator they no longer patrol that property. Police dispatched officers who arrived minutes later and arrested the suspects.

Help Keep Your Assets Safe with Live Video Monitoring

Property managers and owners need to make it a priority to implement effective security measures in their parking garages. Security guards and patrols are often the solution of choice, but they aren’t always the best option. They can only be in one place at a time, so they often miss criminal activity.

Live video monitoring has proven to be successful at deterring and helping to reduce crime at multifamily residential properties across North America, and for up to 60% less than the cost of guards. Trained security operators watch live cameras equipped with video analytics to look for anything suspicious. When they see something, they can respond in real time, which increases the chances the suspects will be caught while still on the property.
