Perimeter Fences Aren’t Always Enough to Keep Trespassers Out

Posted by Paul Gross on Dec 11, 2020

Fencing around a construction site is crucial for keeping the workers, as well as the project itself, safe from interruptions. It also helps to keep casual passersby from entering accidentally. However, those determined to get inside will always find a way. It’s something we see all too often.

In the first incident, a Stealth Monitoring security operator spotted a suspect entering a construction site by crawling over the perimeter fence. Our operator contacted local authorities immediately. Officers arrived, found the suspect in the unfinished building and placed him under arrest.

Incident two resulted in the arrest of a trespasser who forced his way through the fence and proceeded to several areas within the site. Our operator contacted police who arrived within minutes.

In the third part of the video, an individual bypassed the fence and entered multiple unfinished units on a construction site. While there he rummaged through some materials that were lying around. Our Stealth operator contacted police and gave them details about the suspect and his whereabouts. Responding officers arrived, intercepted the trespasser and escorted him off the property.

Finally, three people squeezed through a gap in the fence around a construction site and proceeded to the underground parking facility. A Stealth security operator saw the activity and contacted police with details about the suspects, including their last known location. Officers arrived and intercepted the trio.

Perimeter Fencing for Construction Site Safety

The main priority when beginning any construction project is security and safety. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has certain requirements that pertain to fencing around a construction site. These standards serve as a way for management to help protect their workers, provide safe access to the site, and keep the public out.

Without question, a perimeter fence is a relatively inexpensive first line of defense. They are versatile and easy to use. However, as you saw in the video and have possibly experienced yourself, they can’t keep out those who are determined to get inside.

A Layered Security Solution

By combining security measures, you stand a better chance of deterring theft, trespassing, loitering and liability headaches.

Remote video monitoring is a proactive security solution that can help deter crime and damage. Security operators monitoring analytics-based cameras are alerted to suspicious activity in progress. This allows them the ability to take action and minimize risk, interruptions, injury and theft.

In addition, video footage from the cameras can be used as evidence should any liability incidents arise.
