Pair of Thieves Escape with Valuable Copper, Nabbed by Police

According to the United States Department of Energy, copper theft costs businesses an estimated $1 billion a year. Thieves targeting this valuable metal will take remarkable risks to access it- raiding scrap yards, recycling facilities, empty homes, construction sites, water wells, even railroads and electrical substations to get their hands on the stuff.

Late one evening, Stealth security operators monitoring a warehouse spotted two men accessing the perimeter of the building by climbing through a hole they’d cut in the chain-link fence. After slipping through the hole, the men headed straight for the exterior HVAC units. The operator immediately activated on-site speakers, but the men were undeterred, quickly taking apart the units and snatching expensive copper as the operator contacted local law enforcement.  

The men, satisfied with what they could cram into their pockets, slipped back through the fence, and attempted to escape the scene, but were almost immediately snatched up and taken into custody by arriving officers.
