Tire Thief Rolls into Police Custody

Posted by Eric Nauta on May 14, 2021

In this month’s video, two people were caught trying to steal tires from vehicles in a car lot.

Just after 2:30 in the morning, a Stealth Monitoring security operator saw an individual on a car lot stealing tires. Our operator called Arlington, Texas police and stayed on the line with the dispatcher until officers arrived.

The suspect was seen passing the tires through a hole in the fence and handing them off to another person who was waiting in a vehicle on the other side.

When the officers arrived, that vehicle took off. The individual still on the inside of the property opened the door to a pickup, entered it and tried to hide.

The business owner was contacted because the police were not able to open the gate. He arrived and let the officers in. Once inside, the officers went straight to the pickup where the suspect was hiding. They made contact with him, pulled him from the truck and placed him under arrest.

Theft of Car Parts is on the Rise

Criminals are getting savvier and more brazen in their attempts to steal auto parts. Thieves can easily re-sell them. Rims and tires are among the most commonly stolen car parts, according to The NewsWheel.

Protecting your car lot with live video surveillance is good way to help deter thieves. Trained security operators use analytics-based cameras to monitor your property. If they see something suspicious, they can quickly act since they are watching live activity. Our operators will even stay on the line with police and give them important details about the suspects, as they did in this incident.

One of the best ways to protect yourself is by helping to prevent theft before it happens. If would like more information about a proactive security solution for your dealership, contact us.
