Many multifamily residences provide parking garages in which their residents and visitors can safely leave their vehicles. Unfortunately, these facilities are high crime targets. In this video, a pair of trespassers is caught with two tires and two seemingly stolen bikes.
Just before 5:30 in the morning, our analytics-based security cameras picked up a person in a blue jacket riding a bike into an apartment parking garage. The individual had one vehicle tire on each side of the bike’s handlebars. The suspect was then seen walking back into camera view carrying the tires, as another person was walking towards him. The person carrying the tires tossed them to the ground and both people walked back into the garage.
The pair turned around and retuned to the area where the tires now laid. The man in the blue jacket was pushing a bicycle. At this point, our operator was only able to see the feet of the subjects, as well as a tire and a few other items on the ground. Based on their activity and site protocols, the monitoring operator called to dispatch police.
The duo again walked into the garage then returned with two more bicycles just as police were arriving on the scene. Officers instructed both suspects to sit on the ground. However, one had to quickly move as a vehicle was trying to exit the garage.
The couple was questioned for quite a while, then one was seen leaving on a bike. The original perpetrator in the blue jacket was handcuffed, placed in the police cruiser and driven away. Two other officers picked up the remaining two bikes while more vehicles exited the garage.
Keep Watch on Your Parking Garage with Live Video Monitoring
Parking garages house many security threats. Among them are violent crimes, thefts from and of vehicles, as well as thefts of personal belongings such as bicycles. With limited foot traffic and various blind spots, they can be hard to monitor.
A proactive video surveillance system can greatly enhance visibility and help deter crime. Using analytics-based cameras, trained security professionals monitor multifamily communities in real time, to help deter and stop incidents in progress. In this video, our security operator saw the suspicious behavior, assessed the situation and reacted quickly.
When police receive a call from us, they know we are watching live crimes, so they typically elevate its priority level. This often results in their arrival while the suspects are still there, as they were in the video.
