Parking is a highly sought-after amenity for renters. They want the peace of mind in knowing their vehicle and anything else stored within the structure is safe and secure. As a property owner/operator, it is your responsibility to help ensure that happens.
In this Arrest of the Month video, we caught someone attempting to break into the storage room of a California apartment parking garage. Quick action made sure he wasn’t successful.
At 3:21 a.m., an individual was seen roaming around the parking garage of an apartment building. One of our monitoring operators was watching his suspicious behavior and called to dispatch police. While our operator was on the phone, the suspect tried to pry open the storage room door with a knife. However, police arrived before he could do it. Our monitoring operator contacted the building’s security to let them know officers were on the property and making an arrest.
Prioritize Security in Your Parking Garage
Parking garages are very attractive to criminals. In addition to row after row of unattended vehicles, there are often other valuable assets to be found.
By their mere design, parking structures create countless ways to hide suspicious behavior. This makes it challenging for security guards and courtesy patrols to watch every corner of the garage at the same time. However, advancements in technology can do a much better job and typically for a lot less money.
Live video monitoring is one such advancement. Trained security personnel, located in a remote monitoring center, can watch multiple areas of a property simultaneously. Using analytics-based cameras, they can help spot suspicious behavior and act on it before it can escalate. In the video above, our monitoring operator called police immediately after evaluating the situation.
Because we are watching crimes in progress, police know it’s likely not a false alarm. As a result, they typically elevate the priority level of our calls and send police immediately. As seen in the video, officers were at the property while the suspect was still there and were able to make an arrest before any damage occurred.
