Apartment Parking Garage Trespasser Arrested

Posted by Pearson Brock on Jul 22, 2019

Parking garages are full of places to hide, which makes them hot spots for criminal activity.

In this video, our trained monitoring operators spotted an individual roaming around a Dallas, Texas apartment parking garage, attempting to gain access to many of the vehicles. At first glance, he appeared to be a member of a tow truck crew, so our operator contacted the on-site guard to verify his credentials. The guard did not answer.

In the meantime, the suspect made his way to the top level to try his luck. That’s when our monitoring operator contacted police. Local authorities arrived at the property, located the suspect and made an arrest.

Parking Lot Crime

For multifamily residential properties, parking garage crime can have damaging effects. Not only can it cause safety and liability issues, criminal activity can impact a property’s image and occupancy rates, which will ultimately decrease net operating income.

A National Crime Victimization Survey by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics found more than 1 in 10 property crimes took place in parking lots or garages. Poor lighting, lack of access control, unclear signage and inadequate or no security can contribute to this alarming statistic.

So, what’s a good solution?

Live Video Monitoring Watches Properties in Real Time

As you can see from the video, live video monitoring works in real time to catch events as they happen. Stealth’s trained monitoring operators watch when there is activity, not just motion. We can replace existing guards or work with them to enhance the security at an apartment community. Either way, the results can save you money (up to 60%) and provide a more effective security solution.
