Individuals Attempt to Flee After Caught Trolling for Unlocked Vehicles

Posted by Eric Nauta on Oct 26, 2022

Vehicle thefts accounted for $6.4 billion in losses in 2019, and increased to $7.4 billion in 2020-  ending a two-year trend of decreasing auto thefts. As of June this year, 2022 is on track to show even greater increases, with an estimated $4.5 billion in losses in the first 6 months alone. With the increase in catalytic converter thefts on the rise as well, residents in multifamily communities are understandably concerned about parking security.

In the video above, a Stealth trained security operator noticed two individuals accessing multiple vehicles in the parking lot of a Texas apartment community at 1:48 a.m. Responding to the threat quickly, the security professional activated the audible alarms and contacted local police right away, providing them with details of attempted theft in progress.

As law enforcement arrived on scene, the suspects made a run for it. However, their attempt to flee the area was in vain, and the responding officers ultimately took the parking lot prowlers into custody.

Help Protect Your Property from Criminal Activities with Proactive Security Solutions

No matter the location or degree of luxury of a development, multifamily communities all tend to face some of the same security issues. Trespassing, resident conflicts, building access, common spaces – all of these are security hotspots.

By their nature, multifamily properties present a wealth of opportunity for thefts or vandalism. Parking lots and garages are filled with resident vehicles that are thought to be left unattended at night. Common spaces like pools, laundry and mailrooms, rooftops, or lounges attract after-hours occupants. Keeping an eye on all these targets for suspicious activity simultaneously can seem impossible.

Live video monitoring is a proactive security solution. Using a combination of technology (analytics-based cameras) and human intelligence (our awesome security operators) Stealth’s trained security professionals monitor live video surveillance that recognizes suspicious activity- not just movement- and respond according to protocols.

Just as you saw in the video, operators can respond quickly by contacting local law enforcement, who typically arrive on scene within minutes and can catch suspects while they’re still in the area.
