In this month’s video, we spotted a suspect breaking into a truck parked in a vacant lot on a very rainy Wednesday morning. Needless to say, he spent the rest of the day in jail.
A Stealth Monitoring security operator spotted someone approach a white pickup truck parked in a Dallas shopping center just after three o’clock on a rainy morning. The suspect took off his backpack and placed it on the tailgate of the truck. He searched through it and pulled out a tool which he used to pry open the passenger window. The individual reached his arm inside to unlock the door. He then hopped inside.
Our operator, still watching the perpetrator, called police. An officer arrived and approached the vehicle. The suspect exited the truck and was directed to lie face down on the ground. The police officer placed the man in handcuffs and escorted him to the patrol car.
Vehicle Break-ins Can Hurt Business
Shoplifting and retail theft have a direct impact on a business. Criminal action against cars in the parking lot, including theft, break-ins and vandalism, has a direct impact on its customers. And if those customers feel uneasy about leaving their cars in the lot, they could be less inclined to patronize the retailers in the shopping center.
Get Proactive with Your Security
One of the most effective ways to help keep your retail tenants and their customers safe is to install a proactive security solution. Live video monitoring is not like traditional reactive security systems that typically wait for something to trigger an alarm or alert a security guard who could be on the opposite side of the property. With live video monitoring, trained security operators use analytics-based cameras to watch for crimes in progress. If they see something, such as someone breaking into an unattended vehicle, they can take immediate action.
When police departments receive a call from Stealth, they know we are watching a live crime. They will typically escalate the priority level which increases the chances officers will arrive while the suspects are still on the property.
In addition, we have a department that reviews footage from all relevant cameras to provide a summary of what happened. This video evidence is crucial for police investigations and insurance issues.
