According to CBS News affiliate WJZ Baltimore, communities across the state of Maryland are seeing an “alarming rise in car thefts.” Even more concerning is the recent spike in thefts by minors- with eight teenagers from Baltimore arrested for two separate incidents in Anne Arundel County involving stolen Hyundais and Kias in early August.
Overall theft of vehicles in the Baltimore City area alone is up 201% in 2023 compared to this time last year- and both auto dealerships and private owners across the state are at significant risk.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., a Stealth security professional observed an intruder walk onto a Maryland automotive dealership property from the street, where they approached the main building and appeared to pull on the door handle. The monitoring operator then activated the onsite audible alarms in response before contacting local police dispatchers. The intruder then seemed to settle themselves in the area between the entry pillars and front doorway to sleep despite audible warnings. Officers quickly responded to the site and were observed making contact with the sleeping intruder before taking them into custody without further incident.
Help Protect Your Dealership Property and Inventory with Live Video Monitoring
Dealerships are more susceptible to inventory theft, property damage, and liability risks, due in large part to their design- which must strike a balance between security and accessibility to after-hours browsing. Particularly at risk is the high-valued inventory, which is kept outside for public display. Adding to the security concerns are lots that are often irregularly shaped, making visibility an issue.
Stealth’s live video monitoring solution makes effective security attainable. Using analytics-based cameras that can be strategically placed in key areas throughout a property, including perimeters, parking lots, access points, buildings, showrooms, and service lanes, visibility with Stealth goes far beyond traditional security solutions, like guards or courtesy patrols.
Our customizable solution uses a combination of both cutting-edge video analytics and human intelligence to monitor your property for suspicious or unwanted behavior in real time. Additionally, our solution can also act as a valuable management tool. We watch when there is activity, not just movement, and as seen in the video above, can take immediate action to deter, disperse, or contact law enforcement when needed.
Our solutions are up to 60% more cost-effective than traditional security guards while solving for some of their blind spots.
