At approximately 1:30 a.m., two people were seen walking in a California parking garage. They approached a silver pickup, opened the tail gate and rummaged through the front seat. One of the individuals walked across the garage to a black truck. The suspect opened the passenger-side door, then popped the hood to apparently start the vehicle. While this was taking place, one of Stealth’s trained security operators called to dispatch police.
In the meantime, the pair got into the truck and drove away. They didn’t get very far, however, as officers arrived on the scene. Both suspects were taken into custody.
Approximately 209 vehicle thefts happen daily because the owner left the keys inside. No matter what type of parking structure is on your property, whether it’s a parking garage or lot, it could be a weak link in your security chain. Enhancing the lighting and adding access control can go a long way in helping to prevent crimes. However, when it comes to fully securing your parking garage, video surveillance is a cost-effective solution.
Trained security operators, located in a remote monitoring center, use analytics-based cameras to watch for suspicious activity. Because they are watching in real time, they can quickly assess the situation and respond appropriately. In addition, one operator can watch multiple areas of your parking garage simultaneously, which is something a guard cannot do.
The mere sight of the cameras may be enough to deter criminals. When you add live monitoring, not only do you increase the odds of preventing crimes or stopping ones in progress, but you can do so without having to endure the high price tags of security patrols or guards.
