With the soaring price of metals, catalytic converter thefts are becoming a serious issue. Thieves often target dealerships because lots are filled with many, seemingly unattended vehicles in very close proximity.
A little after 4:00 one morning, our cameras picked up a white van cruising around a car lot then stop in front of some parked vehicles. One of our trained security operators observed the subject exit the van, bend down and do something under a few of cars. Our operator activated the on-site speaker warning. A few minutes later, the van was seen leaving the property.
About an hour and a half later, the white van returned to the same spot where it was previously seen. Our operator again activated the speaker warning and called police. Responding officers were quickly on the scene and made contact with the suspect. He was arrested and his van was towed away.
Help Deter Theft from Your Lot with a Proactive Solution
Catalytic converters and other auto parts are not always easy to replace. The expense and supply shortage can make them difficult to obtain.
A robust security system can help increase security on your lot while deterring theft and other potential damage to your inventory. Remote video monitoring takes a proactive approach to security. Video analytics are pre-programmed onto best-in-class surveillance cameras and strategically placed throughout your lot. This gives our highly trained security operators eyes across your entire property and gives them the ability to take immediate action when unwanted events happen.
In this video, our operator activated an on-site speaker to warn the trespasser he was being watched, as well as called to dispatch police. The video verification from our cameras is usually enough for police to elevate the priority level of the call so they can quickly respond. Quicker response can translate to less damage and loss.
