California Auto Dealership Catches Late-Night Prowler on Camera

Posted by Brandon Koepnick on Jul 31, 2023

There’s after-hours browsing at automotive dealerships, and then there’s activity that can only be described as “suspicious.” With large, often irregularly shaped lots and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of inventory kept outdoors, automotive dealerships are faced with a unique array of security challenges.

Watch what happened when this late-night wanderer chose a dealership monitored by Stealth as a place to browse for open vehicles.

At approximately 2:45 in the morning, alert Stealth security professionals observed an individual loitering on a California automotive dealership property. A closer look at the loitering behavior revealed that the individual was approaching several vehicles, and given the time and behavior, they didn’t appear to be reading the Monroney stickers. Monitoring operators immediately contacted local law enforcement due to the nature of the activity being observed. Officers arrived on site shortly after dispatch was contacted and were observed placing the individual into custody.

Help Protect Your Inventory from Theft and Damage with Proactive Security Measures

Protecting your inventory, business, and staff from criminal activity and liability claims doesn’t have to be complicated. Proactive security measures can help reduce theft, loitering, burglary, vandalism, and other criminal or unwanted activity at your dealership, while also helping to reduce liability risks that can impact your bottom line.

Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive security solution. It uses a combination of cutting-edge technology and human intelligence to monitor key areas throughout your property for suspicious activity as it happens. Our highly trained security operators can also sound onsite speakers at trespassers, loiterers, and other unwanted afterhours visitors, audibly warning them that they’re being watched. In many cases, this information alone encourages them to leave the area post haste.

When the audible warnings aren’t enough to resolve a security concern, operators can contact local police dispatch and provide them with live, up-to-the-minute details and descriptions of suspects and locations, which means officers typically respond quickly and can intervene before a situation escalates.
