Loiterer Removed from Nighttime Setup at Texas Auto Dealership

Posted by Amy Hite on Feb 14, 2023

Auto dealerships have a variety of security concerns, especially when their inventory is kept outdoors, where thieves and vandals can easily access them. While homeless encampments and loitering aren’t as high of a priority, they can still cause issues.

About a quarter after 9 p.m. at a Texas auto dealership, a Stealth security operator observed an individual wandering the parking lot in front of the showroom. The operator activated audible alarms to warn the trespasser away from the area, but they were undeterred, and proceeded to set up camp just outside the doors of the showroom itself. Due to the activity being observed by the security professional, they contacted local police who arrived on site shortly after.

Police can be seen in the video feed from inside the building responding and making contact with the suspect, and after appearing to search them and their belongings, taking them into custody.

Proactive Security Measures Can Help Deter Loitering and Other Risks at Your Auto Dealership

It is common for those experiencing homelessness to choose office buildings and other commercial spaces as a place to bed down for the night. This practice, however, presents a problem for business owners. Loitering and encampments create safety risks, along with a variety of associated security and health risks.

Those who work at the dealership as well as the individual making camp there could be at risk for injury, conflict, or other concerns. Having police respond to the situation and clear the individual out is the safest response.

Having live video monitoring in place meant that as soon as the person was spotted in the area, a security professional from Stealth responded and reached out to local law enforcement. Live video monitoring is a proactive security measure and can help manage and deter unwanted behaviors and criminal activity at your place of business before major damage or threats occur.

Using a combination of analytics-based cutting-edge cameras and the human intelligence of professional, trained security operators, live video monitoring can allow activity to be observed in progress. When our operators call local police, they typically elevate the priority of the call and respond quickly.
