Loiterer Uses Dealership Service Area as Public Toilet

Posted by Erik Mullinax on May 18, 2023

Spikes in vehicle and catalytic converter thefts have led to an even greater need for effective security at car lots, parking garages, and automotive dealerships. According to the Times of San Diego, police say catalytic converter thefts are expected to grow by over 30% in the next two years.

Thieves, trespassers, and other undesirables can, however, be deterred from choosing your dealership as a target- with proactive security. In this Arrest of the Month video, an individual chose the service lane of a Georgia auto dealership as a spot to relieve themselves- unaware that cameras were watching.

After hours, a white vehicle was seen by Stealth operators pulling into the service area of a Georgia automotive dealership. Observing security professionals initiated onsite warning speakers to warn the individual in the vehicle off, but their warning was ignored, prompting the operators to contact local law enforcement. While police were en route, the trespasser exited the vehicle and urinated on the property before returning to the vehicle and continuing to loiter. Officers arrived and made contact with the individual, taking them into custody.

Susceptible to inventory theft, property damage, and liability risks, automotive dealerships face an array of unique security challenges.
