Masked Thieves Troll Apartment Community for Items to Steal

Posted by Alex Godwin-Austen on Feb 10, 2023

Some thieves have specific targets in mind, such as high-value car parts or package theft. Most criminals, however, are simply opportunists, and will attempt to grab anything potentially valuable they can get their hands on.

In this Arrest of the Month video, a pair of masked thieves move through an apartment community with focus, trying to snag items from a variety of places. What they didn’t know was that Stealth was watching.

At 2:23 a.m., two masked individuals were spotted entering a San Francisco multifamily residential community mailroom and accessing multiple mailboxes. The would-be thieves moved quickly and with purpose, then heading straight for the parking facilities, where they shone flashlights into vehicles looking for more valuable property to steal. Stealth security operators immediately activated audible alarms and contacted local police. Responding officers arrived quickly and arrested both suspects.

Help Protect Your Community from Theft and Criminal Activity with Proactive Security

A key driver in resident retention has been online reviews for the past several years, and multifamily community owners and property managers are highly aware of their importance. In fact, according to multifamilyinsiders.com, “If reviews of a property aren’t great, 79% of renters won’t visit it.”

Thefts of resident property, facilities break-ins, and a general feeling of security issues at your community aren’t likely to generate positive reviews from existing residents, which is why having an effective security solution can be vital to maintaining your property’s reputation.

Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive, customizable security solution. Proactive security measures can help deter and disperse criminal and other unwanted activity before and as it’s happening. The cutting-edge technology of analytics-based cameras work in tandem with Stealth’s highly trained security professionals to monitor surveillance for suspicious activity in real time, following site protocols to sound alarms or contact local law enforcement when the situation warrants it.

Thanks to Stealth’s ability to view and confirm activity, as well as understand your property norms to help to determine whether activity is typical or out-of-place, false alarms are rare. When Stealth contacts local law enforcement, they typically elevate the priority of our calls and response times are shorter. This means officers often arrive in time to catch criminals in the act, just as in the video above.
