Office Complex Crime is a “Triple-Header” Strike

Posted by David Charney on May 20, 2015

When a office complex is not protected by video monitoring or surveillance, their premises are at-risk and so are the people who frequent them. Office complex crime struck in Birmingham, Alabama, which suffered the ramifications of a criminal “triple-header” attack of vandalism and armed robbery in three consecutive months. It’s harder to recover from an attack when it becomes a crime streak.

In February, Birmingham police were summoned to investigate the robbery of an office building located in the Colonnade. That was just the beginning.

In March, the office building suffered a vandalism attack. Unfortunately, this was not the last attack that this office complex would endure in 2015.

April brought the third crime strike against the property, perhaps the most serious in terms of public relations. The victim of the latest attack–an armed robbery — was in her car in the building parking lot at 5:45 PM on a weekday evening when the suspect approached her with a gun. He demanded her money. And, he got away with her cell phone and her debit card along with her PIN number.

A police spokesman commented that criminals are always on the look for new victims and locations. But sometimes, when they find a location that’s conducive to criminal activity, they concentrate their efforts there. Since police also have investigated a string of car break ins at a nearby fitness center within the last few months, just a quarter-mile away from the Colonnade office park area, they’re stepping up their patrol in this district.

Business and building owners would be wise to augment their surveillance systems. With real-time video monitoring operators can continually watch the property for any criminal activity. When criminals are aware that a property is under this kind of surveillance, they move their operations to unprotected places where they can operate without interference.

This office complex is not a client of Stealth Monitoring.
