Person Loitering at Orange County Office Building Cleared Out by Deputies

Posted by Elianna Rosen on Sep 2, 2022

Property managers have a lot to consider when it comes to their tenants. Safety, professionalism, cleanliness – office building tenants expect all of these to be accounted for. While there is no way to prevent all incidents before they happen, there are security measures that can be put in place that help to discourage certain threats from becoming an ongoing problem.

During a heavy downpour on a Central Florida evening, a Stealth Monitoring security operator observed what appeared to be an unhoused individual loitering around an office building that was closed for the evening, apparently setting up camp for themselves.

The audible alarms were activated by the security operator in order to encourage the individual to leave the premises, but the person appeared to ignore them and continue with their activity. As a result, our operator reached out to local authorities. Police were dispatched to the building. They made contact with the individual and encouraged them to leave the area.

Taking Preventative Steps Can Help Deter Homeless Encampments at Your Office Building

Those experiencing homelessness are often drawn to what they believe are public buildings, like office buildings, shopping centers, and other commercial spaces. Unfortunately, this presents a problem for those whose businesses are in these buildings. Safety issues, cleanliness issues, and general security are all compromised when a commercial space becomes a hangout or encampment. Property managers need to act quickly to deter these individuals from choosing to occupy common areas.

Both building tenants and customers could have been in danger if this person were not cleared out of the area by the deputies.

Having live video monitoring in place as a part of your security measures can help to manage and deter unwanted activity at your property by proactively watching for suspicious behavior. Homeless occupation, theft, vandalism, and a variety of other unwanted activities are specifically watched for by our trained security professionals, who actually watch the security camera feeds in real time, monitoring your property from every camera angle.

One of the major benefits of live video monitoring? Our professionals are observing activity in progress – and in cases like the footage above, where an individual is unresponsive to our on-site speakers and alarms – when law enforcement is contacted, they know that the call isn’t for an accidental alarm trip. Authorities were able to respond quickly, engage with the individual, and clear them out of the area before any potential damage or threat occurred.
