Suspect Throwing Objects at California Apartment Community Arrested

Posted by Alex Godwin-Austen on Aug 2, 2023

Effective and reliable security is a major concern for residents when choosing a multifamily residential community to call home. In fact, recent studies have shown that millennials, a large swath of the rental industry’s clientele, have strong preferences when it comes to security. 61% reported they were more likely to rent at a property with electronic access, and 63% would move out of a building due to a lack of security.

As Kelsi Borland states at globest.com, “Security is clearly top of mind for the tech-native cohort.”

At approximately 11:10 p.m., Stealth security operators observing a Silicon Valley apartment community spotted an individual behaving erratically, throwing objects at the building, perhaps in an attempt to engage with someone inside. The behavior was immediately determined to be suspicious as well as potentially dangerous, so the observing security professionals contacted local police dispatch to inform them of the activity in progress. The responding officers arrived on site very quickly and were observed making contact with the rock-tossing subject and taking them into police custody before removing them from the property.

Help Keep Your Residents and Property Secure with Live Video Monitoring

Multifamily residential communities are often targeted by thieves and burglars because they present a concentration of potential targets that can be accessed quickly. Parking lots and garages at multifamily communities are often the center of criminal activity for this reason. Crimes of opportunity are also common. When residents prop open entrances or exits, or individual apartments or vehicles are left unlocked, criminals will often take advantage of the chance.

Crimes like the one seen above are also a significant risk. Whether the result of some kind of domestic disturbance, intoxication, vagrancy, or something else entirely, residents want to feel assured that they are safe from harassment, erratic behavior, or criminal attacks when they are in their homes.

Stealth’s live video monitoring can help deter and disperse unwanted and suspicious activity by intervening in real time. Stealth’s live video monitoring uses a combination of technology and human intelligence to monitor your property, watch for suspicious activity, and respond quickly as it happens. The cutting-edge technology of analytics-based cameras allows for the detection of activity rather than simple movement, and highly trained security professionals observing surveillance can determine when intervention is needed.

Security operators can sound onsite alarms, which alone are often enough to send criminals scattering. When alarms are insufficient, they can contact onsite security or local police dispatch. Thanks to our ability to provide detailed real-time information, police typically elevate the priority of our calls and respond quickly, just as in the case above.
