Urban Center Security System Unable to Stop Armed Robbery

Posted by Rick Charney on Dec 1, 2017

An urban center security system can help protect customers and guests from crimes like vandalism and theft. However, what happens when a security system is not watched in real time? Urban centers are mixed-use properties that combine residential sites, restaurants, businesses, and other types of commercial properties in one area. Mixed-use properties are found in large cities across the United States and Canada, mainly in up-and-coming neighborhoods. They are growing in popularity among millennials.

Sixty two percent of millennials surveyed said they would prefer to live in urban centers because everything they need is close by. Forty percent of those surveyed said they would consider living in a mixed-used property in the future. Millennials aren’t the only ones who want to live in urban centers. Retirees and empty nesters are also migrating to these areas. Many are downsizing and are attracted to the amenities and sense of community that mixed-use properties offer. This is the first time since the 1920s that growth within cities exceeds growth outside of them.

Since urban centers have a variety of office spaces, residential properties, and other types of commercial sites, it is important for property managers to increase urban center security to deter criminal activity.

Poor Urban Center Unable to Stop Armed Robbery

Inadequate urban center security put the safety of employees and customers in jeopardy during an armed robbery. An urban center security video showed two suspects walk into a bank at the mixed-used property. Both of the men wore disguises and were armed with semi-automatic hand guns. The security video showed one suspect jump over the counter and steal money, while the second suspect pointed a gun at employees and customers.

The burglars left the bank. The getaway driver waited for them in a gray Chevrolet Impala. Live video monitoring was not reported.

Crime stoppers was offering a reward for additional information. There were no reported injuries from the robbery. The suspects are still at large.

The bank and urban property are not Stealth clients.
