Video — Late Night Apartment Pool Diving — Security

Posted by Chris O' Rourke on Sep 25, 2015

Do you know what’s happening at your property after you leave for the day?

At 1:10 am Stealth operators see young people swimming in the apartment complex pool. The pool area is closed. One person sets a chaise lounge on end and dangerously dives over it into the pool. Apartment pool diving may be fun for the participants. But it leaves the apartment complex owner open to liability when there are accidents. Stealth operators call the property manager and the police. The police arrive with the manager and find one swimmer still in the pool.

Basic Apartment Pool Safety Tips

    • The American Red Cross has published a number of tips in connection with water safety. Apartment complexes try to adhere to these rules and so discourage Apartment Pool Diving and ask residents to stay out of the pool area at the times posted.
    • In public places, only swim in designated areas supervised by lifeguards.
    • Children must always be supervised when they are near any body of water.
    • Less experienced swimmers should always wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets whenever they are near a body of water.
    • Learn CPR skills and know how to tell when a swimmer is in distress and how to contact emergency help immediately.
    • If you have an apartment pool, always keep on hand a ring buoy, ropes, poles, life jackets or other devices that can help a person who may be struggling in the water or drowning, such as from apartment pool diving.
    • If you have an apartment pool or hot tub, make sure to prevent unauthorized access by using safety covers that children cannot open.
  • Avoid alcohol use, which can impair judgment, balance, coordination and swimming skills in around water.
