Virginia Automotive Dealership Catches Burglar Breaking into Vehicles on Camera

Posted by Hayes Gaines on Jun 7, 2023

Automotive dealerships and car rental businesses are in a unique position. Unlike many businesses, who keep their high-value inventory safely indoors, dealerships must keep much of their inventory outdoors. This creates unusual security challenges- balancing access for potential customers who’d like to browse with security that can effectively deter theft, vandalism, and other criminal activity.

Watch what happened when a Virginia dealership was targeted by a suspect that was clearly up to no good-and had no idea that Stealth’s cameras caught his every move.

At 3:19 a.m., a Stealth security professional observed an individual accessing an automotive property, approaching a vehicle, and peering into the window. The operator immediately activated onsite warning speakers to deter the trespasser, but the warning was ignored. The security operator then contacted local police dispatch as the suspect proceeded to another vehicle on the property and was able to successfully gain access. Within just minutes, officers arrived on the scene and caught the individual in the act of breaking into the vehicle. The burglar was taken into custody and removed from the property. A follow-up with the property owner was conducted and the incident details were relayed to them, with a detailed report to follow.

Help Deter and Disperse Criminal Activity at Your Dealership with Proactive Security

With outdoor assets, irregularly shaped lots, and the need to allow after-hours browsing, auto dealerships are not your typical security scenario. Every dealership has its own security concerns, depending on shape, size, access points, location, and local traffic.

Live video monitoring is a proactive solution that not only helps prevent and deter criminal activity before, or in many cases, as it’s happening- but can be customized to meet the exact needs of your unique dealership’s layout and primary concerns. Stealth’s trained security professionals monitor your surveillance feeds and are trained to determine suspicious activity versus ordinary after-hours browsing. When they spot something or someone suspicious, they can sound onsite alarms, or contact local law enforcement and provide the details to police dispatch for intervention.
