In this month’s video, a convicted felon got more than he bargained for when he trespassed on an idle construction site.
Around 11 o’clock one night, a Stealth security operator witnessed someone walking around a construction site. Our operator activated the on-site speaker warning, which the suspect ignored. The monitoring operator then contacted local police to report the activity and give them all relevant information about the intruder.
Our cameras continued to follow the suspect as he made his way around the site. Officers arrived within minutes and located him inside one of the units that was under construction. They placed the individual in handcuffs. They learned during their investigation the suspect was a convicted felon. The officers took him into custody as they exited the site.
What is The Cost for Not Having Security?
An unsecured construction site becomes a criminal’s haven. Valuable equipment, materials and tools left unattended are bound to catch someone’s attention.
Contractors need effective security measures in place to lock down their site and deter unauthorized entry. What is the cost for not having a construction site security system? In a word: devastating.
In Canada, an estimated $46 million of construction equipment is stolen each year. In the U.S., that number is even more significant with between $300 million and $1 billion stolen annually.
Remote Video Monitoring vs Security Guards
Many companies opt for security guards to patrol their sites. The presence of security guards may be effective enough to deter certain types of criminals. However, for this to occur, the security guard must come into contact with the intruder at the same part of the site. However, for a large site or facility, the chances for such encounters are slim.
Remote video monitoring can help safeguard your construction site from uninvited guests. Trained security operators monitor analytics-based cameras to watch for incidents in progress. This proactive system enables operators to view multiple key areas of a construction site at the same time. If they see something suspicious, they can activate an on-site speaker warning and call police.
A proactive security solution like remote video monitoring is a cost-effective way to help deter trespassers, minimize liability and reduce business interruptions.
