Industrial Warehouse Thieves Can’t Take a Hint and Get Caught

Around 1:00 a.m., a black pickup truck with an empty trailer drove onto a Louisiana industrial site. The driver went to the back of the building and positioned the truck in front of a white trailer on the warehouse loading dock. The driver got out of the vehicle and walked to the trailer. An industrial security operator activated the on-site speaker warning. The driver made a U-turn and drove away.

Thieves often target cargo, vehicles and other valuable property at warehouses and industrial facilities at night. Proactive live video monitoring can watch your property when no one is there. Trained operators can look out for suspicious activity, play audio warnings, and call police.

Later that morning, the black truck returned to the loading dock and stopped at the same trailer. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to enter the trailer cab. Responding police officers arrived at the industrial site. The industrial security operators previously notified the local police of the suspicious activity. Three police cars cornered the suspects. The suspects ran away. One police officer captured the suspect. A helicopter unit was dispatched to locate the other two suspects.

Industrial properties often have valuable inventory and assets both outside in trailers and inside in the warehouse. In many cases there are no fences or gates in place to act as deterrents. The lack of security makes these commercial properties vulnerable to break-ins after they have closed for the day.

A video surveillance operator can monitor high resolution security cameras placed at entrances, gates, roofs, loading docks, alleys and parking lots. Industrial monitors can take action in real-time when they see unauthorized trespassers gain access to your property.

What Makes the Best Security Guards?

Highly trained security guards can be a business asset. The best guards are highly trained and able to handle emergency situations. However, guards can also have significant disadvantages. Security guard services are typically very expensive. A security guard cannot be at multiple places at once. Many security guards are not adequately trained. Guards that intercept trespassers can pose a significant liability risk for businesses. Areas such as alleyways and rooftops may be inaccessible to security guards.

For some companies the best solution combines on-site guards with live video monitoring, which can complement and fill in their weaknesses. Live video monitoring can help combat the disadvantages of even the best security guards and cost much less.
