Late Night Intruder Caught Lurking on California Construction Site

Posted by Marcos Pachalian on Sep 22, 2023

Construction site theft, vandalism, and trespassing are persistent problems across the United States and Canada, but these issues are compounded in states and provinces with higher-than-average rates of homelessness and vagrancy.

California ranks highest among US states when it comes to the homelessness crisis. As a result, construction sites in California- particularly unfinished homes and businesses- face an even greater risk of trespassing and vagrancy issues that can result in expensive damages and liability concerns as unhoused individuals seek out shelter for themselves.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., Stealth security professionals observing a California construction jobsite noticed an individual wearing a large backpack trespassing on the property. Audible alarms were activated, and local police dispatch was contacted due to the nature of the activity being observed. Responding officers were able to successfully locate the individual and take them into custody thanks to details about the suspect’s last known location on property provided by Stealth monitoring operators, and the trespasser was removed from the site without further incident.

Help Deter Trespassers and Other Unwanted Activity from Your Jobsites with Proactive Security

According to estimates, construction theft costs the industry as much as $1 billion annually- and this is without accounting for vandalism costs, materials and tools replacement, liability risks, or potential damage costs associated with these thefts.

A proactive security solution can make a massive impact on security outcomes when compared to traditional methods, like perimeter fencing, passive surveillance, courtesy patrols, and other easily circumvented solutions. Proactive security, like remote video monitoring, can help deter and disperse criminals, trespassers, vagrants, and other undesirable actors from your jobsite while also helping to manage liability risks and even site activities.

Stealth’s team of highly trained remote security professionals monitors onsite analytics-based surveillance that is strategically placed throughout your jobsite in key areas and hotspots, and can sound audible onsite warnings, or contact local law enforcement to respond to suspicious or unwanted activity as it happens.

Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive, responsive security solution that is customizable and can meet the unique needs of construction jobsites. Adjustable throughout the many stages an active jobsite evolves through, live video monitoring uses a combination of analytics-based surveillance cameras and highly trained security operators to monitor your site in real time, responding to questionable, dangerous, or suspicious activity as it happens. Stealth’s construction security video monitoring system also has the added benefit of recording and archiving site activities 24/7, making it a valuable tool for site management.
