Materials Thief Tries to Elude Police

Posted by Marcos Pachalian on May 14, 2021

In this month’s video, a person snuck into a construction site and tried to steal valuable materials. He left in a police car…without the materials.

An individual with a backpack approached the fence around a San Francisco construction site. He walked around searching for the best way to get in. He decided to climb over it, then proceeded further into the site.

A Stealth Monitoring security operator was watching and called to dispatch local authorities. Officers arrived but were unable to locate the suspect since he had disappeared from the camera’s view.

The suspect re-emerged and continued around the site, moving materials and other items. Our operator followed him while keeping officers up to date on his whereabouts. They found the trespasser and arrested him.

Theft of Materials Can Be Detrimental to Your Project

Because of the valuable materials and equipment often left unattended, construction sites can be easy targets for thieves. With the cost of materials, especially lumber, continuing to rise, losing anything can be detrimental to a project.

You can be proactive with your security by implementing remote video surveillance. Analytics-based surveillance cameras can be programmed for specific scenarios. If something occurs outside of those parameters, a trained security operator is alerted and can quickly assess the situation to determine the best action. This can mean activating on-site speaker warning at the trespassers and/or contacting local authorities.
