Not So Sneaky: Trespasser on Oregon Construction Site Caught with Live Surveillance

Posted by Ryan Palmer on Jul 10, 2023

It’s no secret that construction sites present an appealing target to trespassers and thieves. Construction superintendents and foremen alike are faced with the problems of stolen or damaged materials, tools, and even equipment or vehicles. And the problem appears to be rising in frequency and severity.

Security solutions that intervene before the damage is done are ideal, but traditional measures, like perimeter fencing and courtesy patrols are often not enough to deter those will ill intent. See what happened when one of Stealth’s construction clients implemented live video surveillance and put it to work at their jobsite:

Around 12:45 a.m., an individual was observed by a Stealth monitoring operator sneaking into an Oregon construction jobsite. A closer look revealed that the trespasser was wandering the site, appearing to hide themselves and access materials. Onsite audible alarms were immediately activated, and local law enforcement contacted due to the nature of the activity being observed. Officers responded to the site quickly and apprehended the suspect, placing them in custody.

Help Prevent and Deter Theft and Damages at Your Construction Sites with Proactive Security

According to National Equipment Register reporting, equipment theft costs vary from $300 million to $1 billion annually- and this is without considering the costs of tools and materials theft, or potential damage costs associated with these thefts.

A proactive security solution can be just the intervention needed to help deter and disperse criminals, trespassers, vagrants, and other unwanted activities from your jobsite- all while also helping to manage liability risks.

Stealth’s live video monitoring is a proactive, responsive security solution that is customizable and can meet the unique needs of construction jobsites. Adjustable throughout the many stages an active jobsite evolves through, live video monitoring uses a combination of analytics-based surveillance cameras and highly trained security operators to monitor your site in real time, responding to questionable or suspicious activity as it happens.

Our security professionals can activate onsite audible warnings, engage with existing security staff, or contact local law enforcement as needed when someone or something on your jobsite looks out of place. We respond to activity, not just motion- so nesting birds or waving branches won’t cause a “false alarm.”

Stealth’s construction security video monitoring system also has the added benefit of recording and archiving site activities 24/7, making it a valuable tool for site management.
