Smash-and-grab thefts are growing problems at industrial and retail properties. A smash and grab is a form of burglary that involves smashing into a barrier, typically a display window or door, grabbing valuables, and quickly driving away. Oftentimes the costs to repair the property damage exceeds the value of the stolen items.

Smash and Grab Burglary at Gun Store
According to police in Paris, Tennessee, a silver vehicle drove into a retail center parking lot and backed into the front entrance of a gun store. Four men, wearing masks and hoodies, jumped out of the car and stole 12 handguns. The news article states that the entire incident took less than 30 seconds. Authorities are working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) because they believe the thieves will cross county and state lines.
This gun store had an indoor security camera system, but live video monitoring was not reported. The surveillance camera was only able to record the smash-and grab-theft after the fact and could do nothing to stop the criminal activity.
How Can You Help Prevent Smash-and-Grab Thefts?
Resistant Glass
Install burglary-resistant glass in showcase sides, fronts and tops to slow down an attack. Since thieves want to move as quickly as possible, the glass may keep them from accessing your inventory.
Product Display
Many businesses like to showcase their high-end merchandise in one place. Consider displaying these items throughout the store.
Live Video Monitoring
Stealth enterprise security operators monitor client properties in real-time. They are trained to look for suspicious activity and act in a timely manner.
