Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, you get arrested by police.

A Los Angeles thief thinks this scrap metal center serves free takeout. It doesn’t. Thanks to Stealth live video monitoring what it does serve up is a chance for up to three years for second degree burglary at a California county jail.

At 8:42am a man gains unauthorized access to a scrap metal recycling property. The suspect rummages through an outdoor yard surrounded by wooden crates and loose parts. A video security operator activates an on-site speaker warning. The suspect remains on the industrial property. The remote video monitor calls the Los Angeles area local police.

Recyclers have outdoor assets that are often protected only by a fence that can be climbed by intruders during nights and weekends. Valuable scrap metal like copper and parts are vulnerable and can easily be stolen. Live video surveillance provides eyes on the property when staff has gone home.

The suspect makes several trips to pick up copper and other parts and take them away. The police arrive and inspect the site.

The thief starts to run when he sees a police officer behind a fence. He quickly gives up and surrenders himself to police custody. He jumps over the fence and lays down on the ground while being handcuffed.

What Makes the Best Security Guards?

Highly trained security guards can be a business asset. The best guards are highly trained and able to handle emergency situations. However, guards can also have significant disadvantages. Security guard services are typically very expensive. A security guard cannot be at multiple places at once. Many security guards are not adequately trained. Guards that intercept trespassers can pose a significant liability risk for businesses. Areas such as alleyways and rooftops may be inaccessible to security guards.

For some companies the best solution combines on-site guards with live video monitoring, which can complement and fill in their weaknesses. Live video monitoring can help combat the disadvantages of even the best security guards and cost much less.
