Can Weatherproof Security Cameras Deter Construction Site Theft?

Posted by Steve Mansell on Jan 2, 2018

Stealth weatherproof security cameras are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions like strong winds, rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. These can all present challenges for human security guards. Another obstacle facing an on-site security guard is logistics. One guard can only be in one place at a time. However, trained live video security operators can remotely monitor multiple areas of your construction site simultaneously via strategically placed outdoor surveillance cameras.

Watch Video: Vandal Attempts to Cut Power Cord at Construction Site – Weatherproof Security Cameras

At 2:54 a.m., a car drove into a snow-covered residential property construction site. A suspect attempted to cut a power cord hanging on the fence. A construction site security operator was watching and activated an on-site speaker warning. The suspect stopped the criminal activity, returned to the vehicle and drove away. Construction site security operators followed the suspect’s movements via weatherproof security cameras.

Live video monitoring can help deter equipment or metal theft from construction sites. What would happen if there were no live monitoring or weatherproof security cameras on-site?

Winter Burglary at Texas Construction Site

Police received a report about a person cutting open a fence and several containers at a Texas construction site. The report also included a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which helped officers track him down. The owner of the car said he was an employee of the construction company. He also said “Jeff,” the construction site supervisor, instructed him to get supplies for an upcoming job.

The suspect allowed the deputies to search his vehicle. They located “a multitude of construction safety equipment,” bolt cutters, and a cut lock. Deputies also found markings on a storage shed that appeared to be forced open, possibly by a pry bar found inside the van.

The operations manager at the construction company did not recognize the suspect as an employee, nor was he familiar with anyone named Jeff. About $3,600 worth of equipment was recovered from the suspect’s van. The suspect has several prior convictions for burglary, theft of property, and metal theft.

This Texas construction site is not a Stealth client.

Frequently, there are no witnesses on-site to see a crime in progress. Even if there were, their description of events may be inaccurate. Construction site security operators can watch your property 24/7. In addition, recorded surveillance video can be used to identify specific information about the suspects and their suspicious activity.
