Construction Surveillance Catches Fence Jumping Burglar at Client’s Site

A Stealth Monitoring client benefited from their construction surveillance system.

At 3:46am, a trespasser entered a Seattle, Washington industrial construction site. He wore a hoodie and kept his head covered so he couldn't be identified by a construction surveillance camera. The suspect ignored the Keep Out sign.He carried two spools of wire and kicked one under the fence. The suspect jumped the fence.

Stealth's construction surveillance operator had seen the burglar on the site before when he first stole the cable. He returned to the scene of the crime. A construction surveillance camera monitor called the Seattle Police. Police identified the situation as a crime in progress. Verified crimes in progress typically get higher police priority. As a result police can respond quicker when live video monitoring is used.

Responding officers arrived at the Seattle construction site. The thief immediately surrendered and placed himself on the floor. Seattle Police handcuffed the criminal and took him into custody.

What makes the best security guards?

On-site security guards can deter criminal activity around local malls, shopping centers, marijuana dispensaries, office spaces, and other commercial real estate properties.

The best security guards are trained and are able to handle:

  • Emergency preparedness and evacuation
  • Segway, foot and K9 patrolling
  • Customer relations
  • Medical emergency response
  • Confrontation and high-risk response
  • Liability and risk management
  • Anti-terrorism strategies
  • How to testify properly in court
  • CPR and First Aid

Despite the benefits, on-site security guards can have significant disadvantages. Some thieves may not take the security guards seriously and will just continue their criminal activity.

  • Security guard services are very expensive
  • Many security guards are not adequately trained and may become a liability
  • A security guard cannot be at multiple places at once
  • Security guard patrol units are only on-site for certain time increments
  • Different areas such as alleyways and rooftops may be off access to security guards
